Alexis Bender, PhD, will be visiting campus for the Sociology Distinguished Speaker Series presenting:
"Prescription drug use, suicide, and accidental death among Wounded Warriors: Mixed Methods Research in the Army’s Behavioral and Social Health Outcomes Program
Dr. Alexis Bender is a Senior Social Scientist with the US Army Public Health Command's Behavioral and Social Health Outcomes Program (BSHOP). She will present an overview of the research design and methods used by BSHOP to examine negative behavioral health outcomes for active duty Service Members and make recommendations to mitigate these out-comes. The talk will also cover some of the unique challenges qualitative researchers face when conducting qualitative research in the military setting. Finally, there will be a discussion of the results of a mixed methods study of accidental death and suicide in the Warrior Transition Units.
